A Few Ways Artificial Turf Can Be Damaged

Artificial turf can look and feel very similar to real grass. It can be a good way to have a beautiful lawn without the need for maintenance. However, there are ways the turf can be damaged. Since you cannot just wait for new growth to repair or replace any damage, the area will need to be physically repaired. While you may be able to do some repairs yourself, it is best to have a professional do the repair so it will not be noticed and your lawn will remain beautiful. Knowing what can cause damage to the lawn is a good way to avoid causing damage and needing repairs. Here are just some of the things you need to be careful of to keep the lawn looking great.

Burns

Artificial turf can be burned in a couple of different ways. The first one would be from the grill. If you plan on having an outdoor barbecue is it best to have the grill placed on a concrete pad instead of on the turf. Any sparks or coals from the grill can seriously damage the lawn. In addition, if the grill becomes extremely hot, the heat may travel down the legs to cause the turf to melt. It is also important that you explain to any smokers to make sure to not flick their cigarettes into the lawn or let a hot ember fall onto the turf. Finally, it would be a good idea to have some type of awning or shade cloth over any windows so the sun cannot reflect rays onto the lawn and burn it.

Holes

If you want to place some type of outdoor game in the yard, be sure that any poles or posts do not need to go through the turf. Any holes in the under fabric can result in the turf pulling away from the base. When this happens, any moisture from rain or snow will get between the base and the turf, causing more of it to pull away. When the turf is pulled away from the base the lawn will look lumpy and uneven. To avoid this, buy games that have a weighted base in the poles and posts so you do not have to pierce the turf.

Although artificial turf is very low maintenance, it can be damaged if not treated properly. Make sure to take some time each week to inspect the lawn. At the first sign of any damage be sure to contact a contractor to take care the artificial turf repair before things get worse.
